How To Remove Adhesives & Gum From Your Carpet

Blog

It can be tough to get adhesive and gum out of your carpet. In order to remove sticky substances from your carpet, you need to use a multiple step process. Here is what you need to do.

Scrape It Away

If there is a big chunk of gum stuck to your carpet, you first thing you need to do is scrape it away. You can use a variety of different tools to remove the gum or adhesive from your carpet. A putty knife or even a spatula will get the job done, or you can purchase a tool from a carpet store specifically designed to cut into your carpet fibers and remove sticky substances.

Angle the tool under the gum or adhesive, and work it until it comes up off the carpet. Try to keep as many carpet fibers intact as possible when removing the substance.

Loosen The Adhesive

Even after you get rid of the gum or the adhesive, there is probably still going to be some residue stuck to your carpet. You are going to need to loosen the adhesive residue from your carpet. The best way to loosen the adhesive is by using heat.

There are a few different ways you can heat up the residue that is stuck to your carpet. You can use a hair dryer and point it at the spot in order to warm it up. If you have a steam vacuum cleaner, you can use that to loosen up the adhesive.

Apply Cleaning Chemicals

Once the adhesive is loosened up, you will need to actually clean and remove it from the carpet. This is when you need to get out your cleaning agents. You are going to need to purchase a gum or adhesive remover from your local carpet store. One of the best solvents are gel solvents.

Apply the solvent and let it sit on the adhesive area. Work it into the carpet using a scraper. Use the teeth on the scraper to apply the adhesive and pull away the remaining residue. Then, rinse the area with hot water. Finally, dry the area with your hair drier or put a fan near the area. You don't want to leave your carpet wet for too long.

By following the steps above, you should be able to remove any gum or sticky residue that makes your way onto your carpet. The key is to work on the stain as soon as you notice it. For more information about carpet cleaning, contact a company like Atlantic Carpet Care.

Learning About Cleaning Services For Offices

Hi everyone, my name is Sandy. Welcome to my site about cleaning services. After starting my own company, I decided to rent out an office downtown. The office space was relatively small but still incredibly difficult to keep clean. I was spending at least an hour a night wiping down everything, taking out the trash and putting items back where they belong. I elected to hire a cleaning service to take care of all those tasks and more. I will use this site to talk more about the cleaning services I received and their benefits. Thanks for your time.
