Problems You May Face with Clogged Gutters

Blog

Are you the owner of a relatively large home? Does it seem like you're constantly pulling leaves and other debris out of your gutters? If you have an extensive gutter system, it can be tempting to skip cleaning them out every so often. Unfortunately, that may not be a very good idea. Here are some reasons why.

Basement leaks: Your gutter system has been designed to move large amounts of water from your roof to a point away from your foundation. But when your gutters are filled with debris and clogged, this system no longer functions as it should. The water that spills over the edge of your gutters will land almost directly at the base of your foundation. When you have a basement, this is bad news for your house. The excess water can cause pressure to build up and force moisture inside of your house. Your current leak and moisture protection may not work as well with the addition of so much extra water just outside. Keeping your gutters clean is essential to helping prevent a flooded basement. If you are unable to perform the gutter cleaning yourself, consider hiring an affordable service to do it for you.

Roof leaks: When your gutters are clogged, most of the excess water will end up spilling over the edge and onto the ground. But if you live in a cold climate, this is not going to be universally true. If the water in your gutters freezes over, even partially, it may cause water to back up under your shingles. This thin layer of water may then freeze as well, eventually resulting in loosened shingles. With enough freeze-and-thaw cycles, you could lose moisture protection around the entire perimeter of your roof. Regular gutter cleaning can help prevent this from becoming an expensive problem.

Invasive pests: Insects and small animals love to live in leaf debris. A few leaves aren't going to be much of an issue, but a gutter that's completely clogged with leaves is going to be the perfect habitat. Without regular gutter cleaning, your roof could become a home for ants, termites, mice, squirrels, and anything else that likes to burrow in leaves. If allowed to continue residing in your gutter system, these pests may eventually find a way to get inside your home and use it as their home. A clean gutter offers no food or shelter to any sort of animals or insects, preventing your gutter from becoming an attractive place to eat or sleep.

Learning About Cleaning Services For Offices

Hi everyone, my name is Sandy. Welcome to my site about cleaning services. After starting my own company, I decided to rent out an office downtown. The office space was relatively small but still incredibly difficult to keep clean. I was spending at least an hour a night wiping down everything, taking out the trash and putting items back where they belong. I elected to hire a cleaning service to take care of all those tasks and more. I will use this site to talk more about the cleaning services I received and their benefits. Thanks for your time.
